Soil Association sole auditor for TTF scheme

2 March 2017

Soil Association Certification Forestry is now the sole auditor for the Timber Trade Federation’s (TTF) Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP) scheme.

This is a compulsory audit of Due Diligence systems, which TTF members who include importers, merchants, manufacturers and agents have annually in order to carry the ‘Responsible Purchaser’ logo. The RPP aims to ‘mirror’ the requirements of the EU Timber regulation, EUTR, which seeks to ensure illegally felled timber isn’t placed on the EU market. Soil Association Certification Forestry is an approved Monitoring organisation for the EUTR and as such has extensive experience of Due Diligence Systems.

Wicki Nielsen, Senior Certification Officer at Soil Association Certification Forestry, said: “Deforestation is still a huge problem in the timber trade. According to the TTF, the UK imports around two thirds of its timber. Around 3% of this is from countries where tropical forests are most likely to be lost through deforestation to make way for agriculture and palm oil production which offer more profit. Soil Association Certification is pleased to be providing a solution through our role as auditors of the Due Diligence Systems for the RPP scheme”.

Soil Association Certification Forestry offers FSC® and PEFCTM certification and a range of legality and Due Diligence systems for companies who want to mitigate risks and ensure their timber or paper products are responsibly sourced.
