Coronavirus: Confor response

18 March 2020

Confor understands that there is deep concern across the forestry and wood-using industry about the economic impacts of coronavirus.

As a result, Confor is acting as a conduit for important business-related information and feedback - through an online information hub here

The focus is on sharing information that helps businesses plan their current and future operations as they face up to the full implications and impacts of the virus, and to highlight how public bodies and governments can help support the forestry and wood processing sector. Broad Government advice for businesses is here.

We will work closely with members to make sure this service is useful to them and draw on their expertise to help populate the website with the right content - and encourage members to share information through their own websites and social media channels.

Confor is also cancelling events, in line with the latest Government guidance - including the #TheFutureIsForestry essay and video prize awards and the Timber Transport Conference 2020 in Penrith.

The Royal Highland Show has also been cancelled (statement here) which means the Scotland's Finest Woods Awards presentation ceremony will not go ahead at the show as planned (statement here).

Confor is urging all staff and member organisations to follow the latest Government advice on the virus, which can be found here.

Please watch this space for more information over the coming days and weeks. It is vital for the forestry and wood-using sector to pull together at this hugely challenging time.
