Introduction to Forestry for Military Personnel

Ever thought about working in the woods? Forestry is a great career choice offering a wide range of roles that can utilise your current skills.

Confor is hosting two free three-day events to give military personnel an insight into the forestry and wood sector.

West England | Hereford | 5-7 November

What you'll be doing:

Wednesday 5 November

Site tour of the Forest of Dean (Forestry England), focusing on recreation and wildlife management.

Thursday 6 November

Visit to a private estate with the Forest Manager (hosted by Bronwin and Abbey), joined by the Forestry Commission.
Tour of Pontrilas Sawmill to see wood processing in action.

Friday 7 November

Indoor presentation session covering career pathways and industry insights from a range of speakers.
Networking lunch with local foresters.

What you'll be doing:

Wednesday 3 December

Visit to Newton Nursery – short indoor intro then tour to see seedling production and nursery operations.
Tour of a mixed estate to explore woodland management in practice.
Visit to a deer larder to learn about deer management and its role in forestry.

Thursday 4 December

Active harvesting site visit to see machinery and harvesting processes in action.
Tour of James Jones Mustodloch sawmill to follow the journey from forest to processed timber.

Friday 5 December

Indoor presentation session covering career pathways and industry insights from a range of speakers.
Networking lunch with local foresters.

Applicants must be current or former UK Armed Forces and hold a full UK driving license.
