Background Information

Forestry England manages 253,000 hectares of public land - the nation’s forests. This land is a mix of forested and open habitats in some of England’s most beautiful and visited landscapes. Plant and Seed Supply (PSS) is a business unit within Forestry England and comprises two tree nurseries, Delamere in Cheshire and Wykeham in North Yorkshire, and Seed Trading based at Alice Holt, Hampshire.   The purpose of the unit is to produce and source the tree seedlings needed by Forestry England, Natural Resources Wales and Forestry and Land Scotland. In addition, we supply tree seed to the private sector.   

Purpose of the Job

As Head of Plant and Seed Supply you will be part of our leadership group, looked upon as an expert in the UK tree nursery sector and expected to lead a team with excellent customer focus and have competent commercial skills. You will demonstrate strong communication, delivery and networking skills, with biosecurity and health and safety in mind. 

Having an innovative mindset, you will be constantly looking for ways to help PSS run more smoothly whether that’s technical aspects or production, motivating your team or generating customer satisfaction. 

The post is critical to our sustainable forestry mission and UKWAS Certification.
