Euroforest, which as the major show sponsor contributed generously to the success of the show, organised the forwarder-driver competition and harvesting demonstrations.  Area manager Tim Leavers and team who made it all happen, said, "The show was very successful.  There was a lot of interest in the demonstrations and the feedback from visitors was that they were enjoying the show. They welcomed the increase in exhibitors and the general feel that the show had gone up a gear. It all worked well for us, including offering hospitality."

The forwarder-driver competition was run in the woodland, with realistic tasks to be achieved against the clock.  The winner was Mark Rooke, who works for Nick Cox in Devon and Cornwall, completing the course in 9 minutes 36 seconds. In second place was Alex Downing, from Wessex Woodland Management, in 11 minutes 10 seconds. Runners-up were: Steve Hann from Mid-Devon Forestry and Gary Mason, from RVC Forestry.

Tim commented: "We were really pleased to see entrants from a range of companies. Some were slow to come forward until they realised the competition was not performing in an arena, but just working as normal in the woods.  Thank you to all you entered and congratulations to the winners."

The new two-day formula for the show proved to be a great success, with record numbers of exhibitors and visitors. Some visitors attended on both days, partly to catch all the events.  Many exhibitors commented that the visitors were serious, buying and placing orders well in excess of last time, and many remarked on the upbeat, buoyant mood. Southern Wood Energy was judged the best exhibit and was presented with the Chris Roberts memorial trophy. Details of other competition winners will be reported soon.

Confor was delighted to have forestry minister David Heath who took part in a panel discussion, where his passion for forestry was evident. Later, he toured the show and was well received.

The show was featured on ITV West news on the evening of the first day.
