Timber Transport Project Manager.
The Timber Transport Forum was established in February 2000 to provide a mechanism for sharing ideas and best practice on timber haulage issues. The Forum's activities are now co-ordinated by Project Manager Roland Stiven who began work on 1 July 2009
Roland will drive delivery of the Timber Transport Forum's (TTF) strategic plan. He will be employed by ConFor on behalf of the Forum and be based at its office in Edinburgh.
Roland has a BSc in forest management from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc from the University of Edinburgh. He is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters.
Roland comes with a wide range of experience having worked in forestry and rural development in the UK and abroad, in both the private and public sectors. As a Highland-based consultant for Raasay Woods Ltd, he developed a variety of partnership projects relating to rural land use and native woodlands for organisations, such as, Forestry Commission Scotland, Borders Forest Trust, Highland Birchwoods, English Nature and Scottish Natural Heritage. Previously he worked for both the Forestry Commission and SNH in advisory and policy-related roles.
A network of Regional Timber Transport Groups enable regional specific operational solutions to be found through Local Authorities working in collaboration with the forest industry. The Forum brings together representatives of the Regional Timber Transport Groups from England, Scotland and Wales; local government; central government agencies and the timber industry.
The Forum's work is managed by ConFor and receives financial support from Scottish Enterprise, Forestry Commission Scotland, Forestry Commission England and Forestry Commission Wales.
